William Murphy and TD Jakes have doubled down on the allegations of a bad New Year's response.
With Mike Bickle, we see that his email was very convoluted. While he gives a little acknowledgment of sexual misconduct, it definitely falls short of the kind of candor expected in true repentance when a minister has deliberately kept his sexual immorality a secret for over 20 years.
Of course, some of us know about TD Jakes being accused of sexual immorality at P. Diddy's parties, which have yet to be confirmed. All we have are allegations that lack solid evidence.
However, what we do have with Jakes is the fact that on a Huffington Post and Oprah Winfrey interviews, his unbiblical vacillating, and very weak responses underscores that he's shifted from the Scriptures and supports the vile sin of homosexuality.
Both of these interviews are on YouTube.
With William Murphy, we've seen his New Year's "service" and there's nothing left to say except that the Lord wasn't there.
What's expected is that when Scripture is brought to bear on both instances, you would find that professed men of God would repent and come clean.
But when you defend what you're doing and arrogantly sneer your nose at people that challenge what you're doing in violation of Scripture, your credibility is severely compromised.
You can't be take seriously.
If you look at Jakes and Murphy's response to people that brought the Scriptures to bear on their activities, it's like they're telling you "How dare you challenge me?" "Don't you know who I am?"
What's worse is when you brag about something that we know isn't true.
William Murphy arrogantly bragged that 150 people got saved on New Year's night at his church. But what lacks credibility, there's no Scriptural commanding to repent of sin and placing faith on Christ. It was all about "joining his church."
There's no place in the Bible where an "altar call" for salvation is to be made. John the Baptist didn't do it. The Lord Jesus didn't do it. Peter didn't do it. Paul didn't do it.
The closest thing to a "sinner's prayer" is Psalm 41:4 and Luke 18:9-14.
Ephesians 2:8-9 is clear.
Acts 26:12-18 is clear.
Acts 2:38 is clear.
Matthew 28:19-20 is clear.
Matthew 4:17 is clear.
Matthew 10:6 is clear.
Mark 16:16 is clear.
William Murphy, in his "response," even challenged any pastor by asking "How many people got saved at your church?"
I remember back in the day, among Baptist pastors in Brooklyn, NY, that they would ask among themselves, "So, how much you're running Doc?"
"Doc" was a term used among preachers that had earned a doctorate degree, but whether you had a doctorate or not, they've still called you "Doc."
But that was the going rate at least in Brooklyn, NY, that you had to have a doctorate degree to be even thought of as a competent highly educated Baptist pastor in NY.
It's obvious that this was almost a nationwide thing.
Nonetheless, Murphy arrogantly bragged about getting 150 persons saved that night.
But if you look closely at the camera, it was way less than 150 and a few people were making for the exits because, the "show" was over.
So what does Paul have to say about this?
Philippians 2:5-8 (NKJV) "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
but made Himself of no reputation,
taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross."
The hallmark of ministers is humility, not an anointing, or how well you speak.
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 (NKJV) "And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.
For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.
And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God."
The other noticeable thing is that each of them used no Scripture to justify their activities.
For Jakes, he had no business with the world and specifically with P Diddy, who's now being investigated for sexual immorality. Now every now and then, some ministers do have a lapse in judgment, however, there's no excuse when you're not giving the gospel to P Diddy, and keeping it moving.
Photo ops, no matter how innocent they may be, only underscores the fact that they're comfortable with your brand of Christianity. THERE'S NO FEAR OF GOD!
The world isn't afraid of a worldly preacher. But sinners and saints are afraid.
How? They know that you represent the Holy and Righteous God and that you will give the Word, in season and out of season. You will stand, toe to toe, and give the Word, even if it means that they will kill you.
With Jakes, the Scripture that applies to him is 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:33. The same could be said for Murphy. Along with the qualifications of ministry found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
In both of these places, The Dream Center (New Year's Eve) and The Potter's House (Christmas Eve), we find that "many" have attended.
In both places, we may be seeing Scripture fulfilled.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV) “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
They've both used their oratory skills and emotional hype to give the appearance that they're so "anointed" that they can do no wrong.
AND THEY ALWAYS HAVE MUSIC backing them up so it tugs on the emotions of people.
This is a key word that's used in the NT, is the word "anoint." It's found only 5 times in the NT. The word "anointed" is found in the NT only 12 times.
It's an over used word among ministers and ministries and in these ministers and their ministries, there's NO POWER, just plain ordinary oratory skills and great sounding music to give the appearance that they have power.
BUT THEY HAVE NO PROOF OF GOD'S POWER!
You're being deceived and they know it.
The Lord warned us about these and other individuals that claim to have "power."
Matthew 24:24-25 (NKJV) "For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand."
Peter said this.....
2 Peter 2:2-3 (NKJV) "And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words;
for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber."
Jude, the half brother of the Lord, said this......
Jude 1:16-19 (NKJV) "These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.
But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.
These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit."
Peter said this.......
2 Peter 2:18-20 (NKJV) "For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.
While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage."
Did you notice that in both places they used the phrase "great swelling words?"
What else did Peter call them?
2 Peter 2:17 (NKJV) "These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever."
They promise great power, but they're like clouds that threaten rain, and not a drop falls to the ground.
But the people go home "happy," "excited," and empty pocketed, having been robbed by them of money that you will need to pay bills.
The preacher is able to pay his bills, but you're still struggling.
You know that this ain't right.
Be not deceived.
