Hebrews 13:15-16 (NKJV) "Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased."
In the 1600's when settlers came from England, they've dedicated a time for thanksgiving.
They've understood the importance of giving God thanks for His protection and bounty.
Some of us know what it's like to have the grace and mercy of God as we travel.
Today, we all know that it's commercialized. The day after Thanksgiving is "Black Friday."
The official or unofficial start of the Christmas holiday.
But we've forgotten God. He's blessed us with so much.
He's even blessed the unthankful and the evil.
For some, it's just too much to stop for a moment and just give God the sacrifice of praise, the fruit of our lips giving Him thanks that's due His name.
For the last 11 months and beyond, the Lord delivered many of us from dangers seen and unseen. The calamity that fell on others, didn't fall upon you. But even if it did, and you've survived, if we would just take the time to thank the Lord, it makes a difference.
How?
In acknowledging God, you're telling Him that you appreciate everything that He's done for our good and benefit.
He didn't have to pull you out of the calamity. And even if He allowed the calamity, He's still worthy to be praised. He was there with you in the trouble. You may not have felt Him, but He was there. Especially if you've survived.
But there's a day coming for every one of us when we may not make it to the next moment.
At midnight every night, 150,000 persons will not see tomorrow. They’ve all wished that they had one more day and didn’t get it.
Our lives is like a vapor. It vanishes in an instant.
That's why we take the time to preach the gospel.
We now know the bad news. We all will die one day and if you've never repented (turned) from sin and placed faith on Christ alone, it's too late. You'll perish in a burning hell for all eternity.
So on this Thanksgiving, don't hesitate to give Him thanks, but don't hesitate to repent of sin and place your faith on Christ alone.
To those that's saved and born again, by that incorruptible seed, by the Word of God, it's an opportunity to share the gospel of Christ around the Thanksgiving Day table.
Seize "the opportunity of a lifetime in the lifetime of the opportunity."
As Peter said, "And sanctify the Lord God in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to everyone that ask you the reason for the hope that's in you with fear and trembling."
Happy Thanksgiving!
