When a pastor has to pay child support, there's a reason why he must become a Sunday Butcher. I was watching a post by a YouTuber of a pastor taking 20 minutes to take up the offering. He used almost every manipulative trick in the book to compel people to give money.
He recently got married to a woman that he was allegedly committing adultery with and went on a honeymoon on the day he was supposed to show up in court to answer to a dispute with another woman that he had a child with.
Long story short, the issue was the timing of the payment which cannot be resolved between the two states that handle the issuance of the child support.
Well, this"pastor" has to pay alimony and child support. He gets paid a large weekly salary and probably there's obviously a court order to garnish his wages for child support. Or he voluntarily makes the payment on the date that the court order commanded.
So it's no wonder that each week, he butchers the Word to compel people to give money.
His name is Jamal Bryant, pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in GA.
Are you a butcher of the Word?
Have you been to a butcher shop before? When you walk in, it's cold. The smell of meat permeates the air. Blood is on the machines and counter tops where the butcher does his or her thing. People purchase all sorts of meats and walk out with cuts of beef, pork, lamb, veal, and chicken.
The corner butcher would cut the meat and the fat is trimmed. Sometimes the poundage is just a little over or a little under.
But in the church, the Sunday Butcher is a different breed.
There's over 330,000 Protestant churches in the United States and many of them are pastored by butchers of the Word. Not every local flock has a ravenous pastor but it's easy to spot them.
The Lord warned us about false prophets and teachers. They abuse the Scriptures for one reason. To extort you.
Matthew 7:15-21 (NKJV) “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them."
The word "ravenous" means......
g0727. ἅρπαξ harpax; from 726; rapacious: — extortion, ravening, rapacious, ravenous, an extortioner, a robber.
Their thirst for money is a dead giveaway. The constant barrage of taking Scripture to get money out of you exposes their motive for church.
The Scriptures indicated that in the Pharisees loved money.
Luke 16:14 (NKJV) "Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him."
Then in Matthew 23:23-24 (NKJV)...
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!"
Look at the words "strain out a gnat." Strange word that the Lord used.
In other words, when something passes through a strainer, everything passes through except a small gnat.
The Sunday Butcher has the same mindset.
2 Peter 2:1-3 (NKJV) "But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber."
They're trained in "covetous practices."
2 Peter 2:13b-15 (NKJV) "...They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children."
They pervert the Scriptures to take advantage of immature believers.
Galatians 1:6-7 (NKJV) "I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ."
The word "pervert" is the Greek word "metastrephō" which means to "corrupt or to turn around."
It's ok to question where the money goes. You should see a transparent policy so that you could trust and have confidence in the stewardship of the ministry.
Get the "receipts."
So when a lot of time is spent to manipulate you to give money, where is that money going to? Understand the means and motives behind why they're asking for the money.
Never be afraid to question the finances of the church you're giving to, and you don't have to give when you don't trust what they're doing with the money.
